DescriptionHip-length coat of heathered gray/cream/navy blue plain-woven wool, cut on the bias so that the fabric actually appears like a stockinette knit. The jacket fastens up the center front with five metal snaps, stamped with "BROWN'S/BEACH/CLOTH". Two slash pockets are on the left side, and one slash pocket is on the right side. The turn-down collar is 3 1/4 inches wide. The fabric is a fleecy navy blue on the inside--this is not a separate lining, but is part of the woven "beachcloth."
Label TextHip-length coat of plain-woven heathered gray/navy blue wool, cut on the bias so the coat looks like a knit. The fabric is a fleecy navy-blue on the inside---this is not a separate lining, but is a part of the woven "beachcloth." A printed label sewn inside the coat reads: "Brown's/BEACH CLOTH JACKET/NORFOLK, MASS." Coats like this were worn by clam diggers. This jacket belonged to Edward Wagnet (1891-1963).
