DescriptionPlain petticoat of cream-colored wool flannel. The petticoat is fitted around the waist with darts and gored panels; there is no waistband. The center back opening fastens with four hooks and eyes. The hem is 3 1/4 inches deep.
NotesHistorical Note: According to a letter written by the donor (see object file 1972.19.2), his great grandmother was Elizabeth Howard Whitman (Mrs. Samuel Whitman, Jr.) (1786-1852). She died too early for this petticoat to have belonged to her, but she may been the mother of the Elizabeth Whitman who owned it. If that is the case, the donor would be the grandson of the woman who wore this petticoat. (Hudson 3/6/2006)Status
