DescriptionItalian souvenir scroll (.a) and box (.b).
(.a) Papyrus paper scroll with some tears; center has a square painting of an amphitheater on the water. Slightly illegible artists signature at the bottom left corner of painting. Below this written first in pencil then covered with brown ink, "SIRACUSA - ANFITEATRO ROMANA / carta papiro"; under this, printed in black, "Sindaco della Cita di Hartford, Conn. / in ricordo della Sua gradita visita a Siracusa / 12 Luglio 1954".
(.b) Rectangle cardboard box with attached lid is covered with off-white paper with a gold bordered lid. Inside of box is a peach color and at bottom center a purple/blue sticker with a white grooved logo of three coat of arms side by side, printed below them, "FORNITORI DELLA REAL CASA"; around border in white reads, "DITTA GIOV. GILARDINI DI TORINO / NAPOLI / MILANO - FIRENZE - ROMA".

NotesObject Note: This scroll was presented to the first Italian Mayor of Hartford, Connecticut, Dominick J. DeLucco on July 12, 1954 for his visit to Syracuse, Italy. Scroll is very fragile. A translation to the words printed on scroll: "SIRACUSA - ANFITEATRO ROMANA / carta papiro", meaning Syracuse - Roman Amphiteatre / papyrus paper. "Sindaco della Cita di Hartford, Conn. / in ricordo della Sua gradita visita a Siracusa / 12 Luglio 1954", meaning to Mayor of the city of Hartford, Conn. / in memory of his welcome visit to Syracuse / July 12, 1954. A translation to the words printed on label in box: "DITTA GIOV. GILARDINI DI TORINO / NAPOLI / MILANO - FIRENZE - ROMA / FORNITORI DELLA REAL CASA", Business of Giov.
