DescriptionMap of Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. The states and what are most likely roads are outlined in pink, with two green roads. Numbers and letters appear on the map without an accompanying key or lesson plan; the states themselves are not labeled. Elevation is conveyed through shading.
Label TextMitchell's Outline Maps were considered an essential component of the well-equipped schoolroom in the mid-nineteenth century. According to an article that appeared in the Hartford Daily Courant on December 9, 1848, these maps were "a leading feature in the present mode of geographical instruction..." The maps were printed, finished, mounted, and published in Hartford; over one thousand sets were produced in 1848 alone.
