DescriptionPolonaise (overdress) of black voided velvet, with a pattern of scattered stylized flowers. The polonaise opens down the entire center front and fastens with eighteen black satin-covered buttons to about hip level. The neckline is high and round, finished with a one-inch-wide standing collar, trimmed on the inside with white bobbin-type lace. The sleeves are narrow and cut in the coat style; the wrists are trimmed with a wide black lace frill. The sides and back panels of the polonaise hang straight. The polonaise is lined with plain black silk to about hip level. The selvages are clipped, laid flat, and bound with black tape. The darts, side, and center back seams are boned.
