DescriptionMap of Eastford, Connecticut, from North Ashford to the north, Fire Tower Road to the east, Hall's Pond to the south, and Axe Factory Road to the west. Numbers presumably corresponding to land lots are marked on the map, and natural features such as rivers, ponds and brooks are labeled. Names include Bungay Brook, Indian Hut Brook, and Slovik Brook. At the bottom left, there is an inset map, labeled "A," of the houses in the area where Route 157A, County Road and Route 198 intersect. At the top right there is an inset map, labeled "B," of Crystal Pond and the residences that surround it.
Label TextEastford is a small rural town in Windham County, Connecticut. Its historical society was founded in 1966 by a group of fifteen men and women including Lennox F. Beach and Harold D. Carpenter. While most local historical societies look to the past, the tiny Eastford Historical Society realized that it could make a valuable contribution by leaving a record of the present for future generations. In 1975, the Society undertook both an oral history project, collecting the stories of town residents, and a town map, showing the location of each house with its current owner and residents. Unfortunately, the Connecticut Historical Society's copy of this map lacks the key, which must have been printed on a separate sheet of paper.
