NotesSubject Note: Harriet V.S. Thorne was an amateur photographer who lived in New York City. She and her husband, Jonathan, had a summer home, called "Schoonhoven," in Black Rock, Bridgeport, Connecticut, where Harriet had a photographic studio. Her studio was stuffed with all manner of props and costumes, and regularly corralled her family into posing for portraits, something the younger members did not always enjoy. She also documented the family’s travels to Florida and frequent trips to their hunting club in South Carolina, as well as getaways to her brother-in-law’s summer home, “Thornecrest,” in Millbrook, New York.

Date Note: The date of the print is probably later than 1920. The stamp on the back, "15.11.77," might refer to 15 November 1977, which could be when the print was made. It is most likely a copy of an older photograph, taken sometime around 1920, which is the year Jonathan Thorne died.
