NotesSubject Note: Robin Gray Russell is not in the Record of service of Connecticut men in the Army and Navy of the United States during the War of Rebellion. According to Census records, a Robert Gray Russell was born in New Haven on 17 September 1860 and died in New Haven on 21 August 1881. It is not unlikely that this photograph depicts that individual. The format of the photograph suggests that it was taken after the Civil War, probably in the late 1870s or early 1880s. It seems likely that Russell, who appears very young in the photograph is wearing the uniform of an older relative. (Ruocco 5/10/2012)Status
