DescriptionOval portraits of the first eleven presidents of the United States are grouped around a small reproduction of John Trumbull's painting of the Signing of the Declaration of Independence. Female allegorical figures representing Liberty (on the left, with a Liberty cap on a pole) and Justice (on the right, with scales and a sword) stand atop Corinthian columns. Four American flags are grouped at the top of the composition. The frames of the presidential portraits are inscribed as follows: "JOHN ADAMS - 1797 to 1801" "JAMES MADISON - 1809 to 1817" "JOHN Q. ADAMS - 1825 to 1829" "MARTIN VAN BUREN - 1837 to 1841" "JOHN TYLER - April 4, 1841 to 1845" "JAMES K. POLK - 1845" "WM. H. HARRISON - Inaugurated March 4 died April 4 1841" "ANDREW JACKSON - 1829 to 1837" "JAMES MONROE - 1817 to 1825" "THOS. JEFFERSON - 1801 to 1809" "GEORGE WASHINGTON - 1789 to 1797".
