DescriptionThree-quarter length portrait of a man seated beside a table with a tablecloth on it. His right arm rests on the table. He is wearing a jacket, vest, and trousers.
NotesSubject Note: Ariel J. Case was from Hartford. He enlisted on August 5, 1862, and on August 24, 1862 he became a Sergeant in the Sixteenth Regiment Infantry Company E. He was promoted to Second Lieutenant Company H on July 1, 1863. On June 24, 1865 he was mustered out. (Ruocco, 04/14/2012)Date Note: Case signed his name "Lieut. A. J. Case" on the photograph. He achieved this rank in 1863 and remained a lieutenant until he mustered out in 1865, so the photograph presumably dates from this time period. (Finlay 4/18/2012)
