DescriptionWoman's white linen chemise with short (5 1/2-inch) gathered sleeves. The sleeves are set in the side seam with a gusset to allow ease of movement. A one-inch-wide band of fine whitework embroidery and a whipped ruffle of fine linen edged with bobbin lace finish the sleeve openings. The neckline is wide and square, edged with a fine linen whipped ruffle. The center front opens with a six-inch placket, to be fastened at the top with a stud, as indicated by the two opposing buttonholes. The front and back panels are gathered into the neckband; they are pieced to the desired width. The hem is 3/4-inch deep. The stitching on this chemise is remarkably fine.
