DescriptionPortrait of a young girl sitting in a wooden armchair. She is wearing a plaid dress and holds a hat in her lap. One shoe is on and one shoe off, revealing her stocking.
The brass mat is rectangular with rounded corners and a border of leaves.

The red velvet mat has a central floral design with a border of leaves.

The case has flowers in the center surrounded by a cartouche, with scrollwork in the borders.
NotesSubject Note: The New York daguerreotypists made several portraits of John Allen, of Saybrook, Connecticut, his wife Mary Ann Phelps, and their four daughters during the 1850s/60s. The little girl in this daguerreotype probably belongs to the Allen family. (Finlay 4/3/2012)
