DescriptionHalf-length seated portrait of a young woman wearing a dress with a lace collar and a brooch. She is holding a bouquet of flowers, probably artificial flowers.

Brass nonpareil mat has what appear to be fleurs de lis at the corners and other abstract floral designs at the edges.

Red velvet pad has an embossed design of flowers in a vase surrounded by a floral border.

Leather-covered case is blind-stamped with flowers in an oval surrounded by multiple borders. The gilt-stamping appears to represent a rope.
NotesSubject Note: Sarah Taintor Bulkeley Waterman (1835-1856) married a sea captain and was with him on a voyage to the Orient when their ship was attacked by pirates and they were both killed. (Finlay 6/28/2012)
