DescriptionWoman's petticoat constructed of white cotton fabric woven with weft strips of white cotton rags, so that it has a corded appearance and is stiffer than plain fabric. The lower 6 1/2" are woven with closely packed rag strips; above this, the rag wefts are placed about every half inch. The center front panel is woven plain and smooth in the top half. The bottom edge is bound with plain cotton fabric, sewn on the straight grain. The top of the petticoat skirt is gathered into a 1 5/8-inch-wide waistband, which closes with a single white ceramic button. The waistband is worked with four additional buttonholes so that it could be buttoned to the corset cover.
