DescriptionFull-length, frontal portrait of a man and woman, probably a bride and groom, taken on their wedding day. The couple stands arm-in-arm on a porch, the furnishings of which are visible in the background. She is wearing a white dress and holding a large bouquet, while he is wearing a suit and bow-tie.

The couple are Margaret Thorne Tjader and C. Richard Tjader. Margaret Thorne Tjader was the daughter of Samuel Thorne and Phebe Van Schoonhoven Thorne, which made her Harriet V.S. Thorne's niece. She married C. Richard Tjader on September 19, 1899, at Thornecrest, Samuel and Phebe's summer home.

"The Crest" was the Thorne family's name for their house, Thorncrest, in Millbrook, NY. Designed by Edward Tuckerman Potter for George Hunter Brown, it was built in 1867 and called Millbrook House. The grounds were landscaped by Olmsted & Vaux. It was razed in 1950.
