DescriptionIrish stitch pocketbook, worked in a design of lozenges with yellow, blue, or pink centers, surrounded by a frame of black and two shades of green or blue. The original colors, seen inside the purse, are vibrant. The crewel yarns are worked on a linen canvas, which is lined with pink tammy (glazed, plain-woven worsted), and interlined with stiff paper. The pocketbook opens to reveal double pockets on each side, with sides of accordian-pleated olive silk damask. The edges are bound with red twill-woven wool tape. The interior has been patched with red wool baize. The pocketbook closes with a 1 1/4-inch-wide olive silk ribbon (torn).
