DescriptionWoman's chemise of white linen, with the front and back panels gathered into a two-inch-wide yoke. The neckline is low and round (4" deep x 11 1/2" wide.) It is trimmed with a narrow tatted edging. The sleeves are short (6 1/4") and are gathered into the top of the shoulder and into a band at the opening. This band is trimmed with the tatted edging. The sleeves are cut full under the arm, so there is no gusset. The center front of the chemise is open for seven inches; two buttonholes worked in the yoke indicate that a stud was used as a closure (it would be easily removed for laundering.) The front panel is pieced selvage-to-selvage on the left side; the back panel is pieced on the right side. Other seams are flat felled. The hem is turned up 1 1/8 inches. The top stitching of the yoke and sleeve bands is done by machine.
