DescriptionFramed full-length portrait of a young boy, about 3 or 4 years of age. He has brown ringlets and blue eyes, and is wearing a blue shirt with ruffled neckline and gray trousers. He is holding the red leash of a dog that is standing at the right. Trees are in the background.
Frame is modern gilt.
NotesDate Note: According to the donor, Charles was three years old when this portrait was done. He was born in 1841, so this would have painted around 1844. (Lee 2/14/2012)

Attribution Note: An attribution by the donor says this was painting by a ______ Hewins. A note in the object file, related to Amasa Hewins. Although the note seems to point more towards Amasa, if the "Hewins" attribution is accurate, it seems more likely that this would have been painted by Philip Hewins who was known to have worked in Hartford, Connecticut about the time this was painted.
