NotesSubject Note: Sophia Hamersley was born in Hartford in 1842. She was the youngest daughter of William James Hamersley, the sister of Elizabeth, Ogden, and William Hamersley. William Hamersley was born in 1839 and is most likely the older child in this daguerreotype. A daguerreotype showing Sophia Hamersley as a young girl (2011.63.81) was taken while she a pupil at the "Farmington School," presumably Miss Porter's School.
