NotesSubject Note: Elizabeth van Cortlandt Hamersley was the wife of Dr. William Hamersley and the mother of Judge William Hamersley. She died in 1856 in New York, New York. (Ruocco 03/17/2012) Subject Note: This and two other daguerreotypes of Elizabeth van Cortlandt Hamersley (2011.63.84, 2011.63.85) were obviously taken at the same time, since they are virtually identical, with only small variations in the positions of the sitter's hands and face.
