NotesSubject Note: William James Hamersley was married to Laura Sophia Cooke and was the father of Judge William Hamersley, Ogden Hamersley, Elizabeth Hamersley, and Sophia Hamersley. William James Hamersley was twice mayor of Hartford (1852, 1862) as well as editor fo the American Mercury and a partner in Belknap & Hamersley, a Hartford firm that published works by Horace Bushnell and Lydia Sigourney.
