DescriptionEnvelope-style pocketbook of black wool, embroidered on the front in a needlepoint stitch with a border of red flowers with green leaves, and sprays of roses in the corners. The flap is embroidered in red cross stitch with the owner's name and date. The back is embroidered with a large central spray of flowers arranged in an oval. The pocketbook opens to reveal four compartments, with accordian-pleated sides of green silk. The interior is lined with pink silk over cardboard, which provides stiffness and structure to the item. The edges are bound with narrow green ribbon, very finely stitched. The pocketbook was used for correspondence. A note reading "C.F. Macy/ 54 Wall St." was found inside.
