DescriptionReproduction of a portrait painting of a man standing, wearing a greatcoat and holding a pair of gloves. He has an imperial mustache and is wearing pince-nez glasses. The edges of the canvas are visible, and it appears to be propped up on a small table. The canvas is signed "Franzen."
Object number2011.344.145
NotesSubject Note: The subject of the painting may be William Howard Taft. In correspondence between Rollie McKenna and James D. Burke (Curator of Prints, Drawings, and Photographs at Yale University Art Gallery), a photograph of a painting of Taft by Franzen is mentioned. Burke reports that it is not the 1913 painting that is in the Yale collection, and further correspondence from Robert G. Stewart (Curator at the National Portrait Gallery) confirms that it is likely not the 1917 painting owned by Raydon Galleries.
