DescriptionTwo women, one doing needlework and the other writing letters, are sitting in chairs in a parlor. There is a calendar visible on the table that reads "August 1898." The table is also decorated with a tablecloth, framed images (photographs?) and a vase of flowers. The women, while the subjects of the image, are not in clear focus; the wallpaper, hanging light and potted plant that adorn the room are in focus.
NotesSubject Note: It is unclear whether the location was the Thornes' house in Black Rock, CT (Schoonhoven), or Millbrook, NY (The Crest). The inscriptions on the index card attached to the verso of the contact print indicate that it might have been Phebe Anna Thorne's apartment at The Crest or an unidentified room in Schoonhoven.
