DescriptionGroup of photographs of the Hartford, Connecticut area. A majority of the images depict the Store Door Canteen in the Sage-Allen department store, including an exterior view, and several interior views. The interior views are of cartoon drawings on the walls depicting military life. Vignettes include entering the service and KP duty. Army, navy, and marines all appear to be represented. There are interior and exterior views of the Army Recruiting and Selective Service Induction Station at 555 Asylum Street. Many Hartford streets are represented: Main Street (looking north and south), State Street (including the Isle of Safety), Pearl Street, and Trinity Street. Some photographs include automobiles or buses. Views of Hartford include the Old State House, Traveler's Tower, Aetna Life Insurance building, the State Armory, the YMCA, and the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial. Individual photos of people, most wearing military uniforms, include William Johnson, Sgt. Gene Wolfe, Earl Strout, and Sgt. Roland Dauphinee. Some businesses are visible, including: B. Presta shoe repair, Paul Shippman's Drug Store, and a restaurant. There are also two views of Satan's Kingdom in New Hartford.
