DescriptionA bald eagle is standing on a nest full of eggs. The nest is on a cliff and is made of a twisted American flag. A ribbon coming from the eagle's mouth is inscribed, "ANNIHILATION TO TRAITORS." In the nest are eggs representing all of the states in the Union. Each egg representing a southern state is cracked, and various animals are emerging. The eagle's left talon is grasping a rattlesnake emerging from an egg labeled "SOUTH CAROLINA" "Pitkin". In the right talon, a bear identified as "Jeff. Davis" is waving a three-striped flag with a circle of stars on a blue field. He is emerging from an egg labeled "MISSISSIPPI". Papers labeled "Repudiated / Bonds" are beside him. Three eggs are painted bluegreen and are labeled: "KENTUCKY / Addled" "TENNESSEE / Rotten" and "MARYLAND / Bad Egg". Other eggs are labeled: "OREGON" "CALIFORNIA" "KANSAS" "TEXAS / Houston" "MINNESOTA" "IOWA" "MISSOURI" "ARKANSAS / Sabastien" "ILLINOIS" "INDIANA" "FLORIDA / Mallory" "Beauregard / LOUISIANA" "ALABAMA / Yancey" "Toombs / GEORGIA" "WISCON-/SIN" "MICHIGAN" "OHIO" "MAINE" "VERMONT" "N. HAMPSHIRE" "MASSACHUSETTS" "NEW-YORK" "CONNECTICUT" "R. ISLAND" 'PENNSYLVANIA" "NEW JERSEY" "DELAWARE" "VIRGINIA / Letcher". A steam ship with a flag behind sails off to the right.
