DescriptionA man and a woman are entering a gate in a chain link fence. The man is wearing a suit and a bow tie. He has a carnation pinned to his lapel and holds a straw hat in his hand. The woman is wearing a sleeveless evening gown, a tiara, and long white gloves. She holds a shawl over her arm. A banner reads "DANBURY STATE FAIR QUEEN." In the background, a horse-drawn carriage has lettering that reads "THE QUEEN / OF THE GREAT / DANBURY / FAIR." The corner of an American flag is at the upper left.
NotesSubject Note: The Danbury Fair was an annual exhibition held in Danbury between 1821 and 1981. At first a traditional agricultural fair, the event later included large fiberglass sculptures, stock car racing, and amusement park rides. The former fairground is now (2011) the site of the Danbury Fair Mall. (Finlay 3/25/2011)
