DescriptionOne of a group of three memorial wall hangings, with the names and memorials for individuals who died in New York City on 11 September 2001. Each hanging is constructed like a tied comforter consisting of a pieced top, cotton batting, and a plain-woven cotton backing; the three layers are held together with tied tufts of yarn. The top of each hanging includes square blocks that were made by the family and friends of those who died. The blocks are made of muslin in different colors; they are decorated with hand-written, printed, or machine-embroidered text and a variety of appliquéd materials, including fabrics, ribbon, fabric printed with photographs, paper, paint, puff paint, glitter, small plastic objects, pins and buttons.

Wall Hanging .3: The pieced top consists of four square blocks, a pieced flag, appliqued stars, and a blue and white pieced background, all in printed, plain-woven cotton. The ties are made of a gold metallic thread. The top and each side edge of the hanging are finished with a knife edge. The bottom has a thick, red fabric binding. The backing consists of plain-woven blue cotton. Four, red plain-woven cotton tabs are sewn to the top edge of the wall hanging to allow it to be hung on a wall.
