Label TextDanish-born Jens Risom (b. 1917) came to the United States in 1938. He founded Jens Risom Design, Inc. in 1946 after serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1955, under the corporate name of Risom Manufacturing Corporation, Jens Risom leased 120,000 square feet in a former textile factory in North Grosvenordale, CT. He hired former textile workers to work in the plant. By 1959, he employed 135 people at the North Grosvenordale factory and 95% of Risom’s furniture was made there. Risom furniture was sold in salesrooms in New York City, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Copenhagen, Melbourne, and Toronto, to American and international clients. Specialty fabrics were designed for Risom furniture and applied at the North Grosvenordale factory. Jens Risom Design, Inc. furniture was designed for residential and business interiors. This chair was probably made between 1970-76 and the fabric is reputedly designed by Maya Romanoff.
