DescriptionPhotographs taken to promote the YMCA of Greater Hartford. Many photographs relate to the campaign to raise money for a new YMCA building, beginning in 1956. Some photographs show Graham R. Treadway, presidnet of the Connecticut Bank and Trust, and Erle Martin, vice-president of the United Aircraft Corporation and others who participated in the campaign. Other individuals depicted include Francis E. Gray, Warren Hughes, Thomas Cole, "Hap" Crossman, Thomas D. Gill, P. W. Breux, and Wilson C. Jainsen. One photograph shows a window in the former Steiger's building advertising YMCA summer programs. One photographs shows two young boys with bicycles looking at a sign for the new YMCA-YWCA East Hartford building. One boy appears to be African-American. One photograph shows boys stuffing envelopes. Several photographs show a girl and boy holding hands. The boy wears a suit and necktie. The girl wears a sweater, blouse, and skirt.
