DescriptionA man with a beard and mustache lies on his back on the ground. His upper body rests on a rock and his hands are evidently tied behind him. He wears a doublet, breeches, and hose. A young Native American woman wearing a fringed blanket, bracelets, arm bands, and a gold band in her long hair bends over him. He is threatened by two other Native Americans. One man wears a loincloth and feathers; the other wears leggings, moccasins, and what appears to be a skirt. Both men have tattoos. A group of Native Americans on the right, apparently led by a woman wearing a feathered headdress and holding a long pipe in her hand, look on. Some are seated on mats. One wears earrings. In the left foreground is a spilt basket of corn, and on the right, a bow and quiver of arrows, a tomahawk, and a plumed hat. Wooden walls in the left and right background appear to be part of a fort or stockade.
