NotesSubject Note: Joseph H. Cummings was mustered into the First Connecticut Volunteer Heavy Artillery on May 23, 1861 as a first sergeant. He was subsequently promoted to second lieutenant and then to first lieutenant. He died on August 28, 1864. (Finlay 11/30/2010)
