DescriptionExterior views of the the American Shakespeare Theatre show the theater building under construction, and actors, actresses, and theater-goers outside the completed building. The construction photograph shows steel frame, construction equipment, including a crane, and piles of lumber. Richard Eaton and Inga Swenson appear in the roles of Romeo and Juliet. Five small boys from the cast of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" dance in a circle on the grassy lawn. One boy appears to be African-American. Young women are seated at a picnic table and in lawn chairs. Men and women stand in line awaiting admission to the theater.
NotesSubject Note: The American Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford was the home of the American Shakespeare Festival. Founded in 1955, the theater continued to present plays until the mid-1980s. Stratford was selected as the location of the theater because it had the same name as William Shakespeare's birthplace, Stratford-on-Avon. (Finlay 7/14/2010)
