DescriptionWoman's three-part evening dress, consisting of a bodice (.a), skirt (.b), and overskirt (.c), of peach-colored ribbed silk. The bodice has a V-shaped neckline, edged with a self-fabric ruffle and cream-colored tulle. The center front opening is fastened with hooks and eyes. The armscye seam of the dropped shoulder is piped. Three-quarter-length sleeves end in wide, bell-shaped self-fabric ruffles with tulle. The waistline is similarly decorated. At the center back, the bodice lengthens into two pointed tails, which are also edged with self-fabric ruffles and tulle. Cream-colored cotton sateen lines the bodice. Two darts on each side of the center front opening are about six inches long and are boned. The side seams are also boned.
The skirt has a long train. It is flat in front, pleated over the hips, and pleated with large cartridge pleats at the center back. Like the bodice, it is decorated with a self-fabric ruffle and tulle at about knee height and also around the bottom. It is lined with glazed white cotton and stiff net. The bottom edge is turned up with a 5/8-inch hem.
The overskirt (.c) is a rounded apron shape in front, with very long (about seventy inches) and wide (about 27 inches) tails pleated into the back, on either side of the hook-and-eye opening of the waistband. The apron front and tails are edged with a self-fabric ruffle and tulle.
