DescriptionAirplanes are flying over an airfield on a partly cloudy day. Additional aircraft are lined up in single file on the grassy airfield ready to take-off. All of the planes have three white stripes underneath both wings. Armed men in military uniforms are walking across the field towards the planes. An officer stands beside the line of soldiers, talking to another man. Trucks and jeeps are in the background.
NotesSubject Note: The Douglas Skytrain C-47 was a military transport, developed from the DC-3 civilian passenger airliner. It was extensively in both Europe and the Pacific, by the United States Army Air Forces and by the British Royal Airforce. After the war, many C-47s remained in service through the 1950s. A few remained in use in the early 21st century. (Finlay 4/1/2010)
