NotesSubject Note: The Republic Thunderbolt P-47 was the biggest most expensive fighter aircraft used in World War II. Powered by Pratt & Whitney Double Wasp engines, it was introduced in 1942 and was one of the main United States Air Forces fighter aircraft throughout the war. (Finlay 3/31/2010)
