DescriptionFormal studio portraits of a man with a mustache wearing eyeglasses, and informal portraits of the same man seated at a desk. Electric lamps, ink wells, papers, and other office supplies are on the desk. In some photographs bouquets of flowers are on the desk. In one photograph, taken on 7 January 1941, he is standing and wearing a hearing aid.
NotesSubject Note: 2005.181.27 was taken at a testimonial dinner in honor of Martin Welles at the Hartford Golf Club on January 7, 1941. A few days later Welles announced his retirement as vice-president and secretary of the Travelers Bank & Trust Company and vice-president of the Connecticut River Banking Company. 2005.181.18 is a photograph of an oil painting made about the same time to be hung in the bank headquarters.
