DescriptionA Chippendale cherry candlestand featuring a square tray top with an inlay decoration of an oval pattern with the script letter "G" in the center and a checkered border, surrounded by an applied tray molding along the edges.
The top is joined with screws from below to a rectangular cleat. The cleat is supported by a turned standard showing a cylindrical top with a rounded lower edge over a cove molding continuing into a tapered shaft supported by a cove molding over a compressed ball over a deep cove with an angular scribed groove in the middle, supported by a compressed disk over a wide band cylindrical base. All supported on three cabriole legs joined to the cylindrical base below the wide band, and showing a rounded knee continuing into an ankle and foot showing a peaked ridge and straight platform foot. The base of the standard features a straight lower edge continuing into a straight section along the lower edge of the cabriole leg. A wrought iron frog is applied to the base of the standard with wrought iron nails.
