NotesHistorical Note: Louis Philippe (1773-1850) became King of France following the Revolution of 1830. His ascension was viewed as a victory by the Liberals, but he alienated the lower bourgeoisie by refusing to grant them the franchise, and he was deposed in the Revolution of 1848.
