DescriptionWoman's wrapper of green plaid silk. The plaid is woven with white and black threads in a warp-print design in the horizontal stripes and in ombre-like shading in the vertical stripes. The wrapper is trimmed down the center front opening and around the high, round neck with two opposing rows of pleated picot-edged silk ribbon, which is green, bordered with a black and a red stripe. The ribbon also trims the bell sleeves and sleeve caps. Black velvet ribbon is centered between the opposing rows of pleated silk ribbon. The neckline retains its original whitework embroidered collar.

The wrapper opens down the entire center front and ties closed at the waist with a silk cord sash, ending in 5 1/4-inch green silk cord and pink chenille tassels. The silk fabric of the bodice front drapes from the dropped shoulderline straight down to the hem, without fitting. The silk fabric of the bodice back is pleated at the waistline, with the fullness released to the shoulders. The bodice is lined with white sateen cotton; it is separate from the dress fabric in front and closes with eight buttons (six white ceramic, two mother-of-pearl set in a gold metal bezel). The lining is boned in the darts and side seams; the center back was also originally boned.

The skirt is knife-pleated into the waistline edge of the bodice. There is an in-seam pocket on the right side. The skirt is entirely lined with glazed white cotton, and with an additional 6 1/4 inches of brown glazed cotton around the hem. The front opening is faced with pink silk. This pink silk also lines the bell of the sleeves.
