DescriptionWoman's dressing gown of shaded blue, black, brown, and white plaid silk. The neckline is high and round, and the shoulderline is dropped. The silk fabric of the gown front falls loose and straight from where it is pleated into the shoulder. The center front opening, which extends the entire length of the gown, is edged with a double row of pleated blue silk ribbon. This ribbon is edged with narrow yellow velvet ribbon. A 1 1/2-inch-wide black velvet ribbon is centered between the two opposing rows of the blue silk ribbon. This same decorative treatment edges the bell sleeve at the opening and on the separate sleeve cap. The armscye seams, waistline, and neckline edge are piped. The original whitework collar trims the neckline.

The skirt of the gown is pleated into the waistline, which is defined from the hips and across the back. There is an in-seam pocket on the right side. The waist is encircled by a blue silk cord sash, which is threaded at center front through a large wooden bead covered with blue silk, with long ends extending down the front. The cord ends are finished with blue silk tassels.

The silk fabric of the gown closes with hooks and eyes at the bodice. The bodice is lined with brown cotton sateen. The lining is separate from the silk fabric at the bodice front and is fitted with three five-inch darts on either side of the opening. The side seams are boned. The bodice lining closes with nine buttons (there is currently a variety of white buttons, some are mother of pearl, some are ceramic, one is bone).

The skirt is lined with glazed cotton in a tan color. The hem is lined for 11 3/4 inches with a darker brown glazed cotton. The bottom edge of the skirt is bound with brown wool tape.

The object includes a lace collar, white-work embroidered undersleeves and portrait brooch.
