DescriptionEnglish made flintlock musket with mounting bracket for use as a wall mounted gun. The musket consists of a wooden stock with a large caliber smoothbore barrel that is flared at the end and measures 2" in diameter at the muzzle. The flint lock consists of the frizzen and pan, the hammer with flint intact, and the trigger, but is missing the key plate on the opposite side. The lock plate is stamped at the rear with the makers name and date, JORDAN / 1748 which is now partially worn, and only reads "ORDA / 48". Stamped in front of the hammer is a crown symbol with a broad arrow below it. The musket is complete with a steel ramrod that is stored under the barrel in the stock. Both the butt plate and the trigger guard are made of steel and secured to the stock with screws. Engraved into the top of the rear end of the barrel are the letters "N. E. R. P."
Label TextAccording to museum records, this gun is reputed to have been captured from a fort at Vera Cruz, Mexico during the Mexican War.
