DescriptionPhotograph album contains photographs of Essex, Connecticut.

Images included in photograph album are members of the Ivoryton Wheel Club standing on the deck of their clubhouse. Two photographs of the Union "Live and Let Live" celebration, bicycle parades, tree-lined residential streets, churches, bridges, farms and farm animals, family pets, railroad trains, bridges, and railroad engines.

There are several photographs of factories and mills including the Comstock, Cheney & Company, manufacturers of ivory goods.

Scenes along the Connecticut River include several unidentified waterfalls, rapids, and dams. There are also several images of the Lynde Point Lighthouse, sailboats and barges along the Connecticut River, Steamboat Landing, and the Dauntless at Ely's Landing in Essex. There are also images of people rowing and canoeing along the Connecticut River.

Many of the images are birdseye views of Essex which include the village, the Connecticut River, meadows, farms, and fields. Some images include winter scenes.


NotesSubject Notes: 1980.90.0.26 is a cyanotype of the Mystic-built schooner yacht Dauntless and another two masted schooner moored at Ely's Landing in Essex. The photograph is a bow view. The Dauntless was owned by Caldwell Hart Colt, son of Samuel Colt of Hartford from 1882 until 1894.

1980.90.0.89 is a photograph of Comstock, Cheney & Co., manufacturers of ivory goods in Ivoryton, Connecticut.

1980.90.0.111 is a photograph of Lynde Lighthouse. The light house marks the entrance to the Connecticut River and the harbor of Old Saybrook.

1980.90.0.146 is a photograph of Steamboat Landing on the Connecticut River in Essex, Connecticut.
