DescriptionPrinted wool challis day dress, with a pattern of red, brown, and green rose sprays and abstract foliate designs on a tan background. The dress opens at center front with small, dome-shaped buttons covered in tan silk, and with hooks and eyes along the edge of the lining for additional stability. The bodice is fitted with three 8 1/2-inch darts on either side of the opening. The waistline is slightly dipped in front. The shoulderline is dropped, and the long sleeves are decorated at the top with caps trimmed with a double row of golden-tan silk fringe. The sleeves are gathered into 1 1/2-inch-wide cuffs, which close with hooks and eyes. The neckline is high and round; it is finished with silk-covered piping, as are the armscyes and waistline edge. The bodice is lined with white twill-woven cotton; the sleeves and sleeve caps are lined with brown glazed cotton. The bodice is boned in the darts; it was originally boned also in the side seams, but the boning is missing there now. The shoulderline has been altered to make it slightly less rounded.
The skirt is cartridge-pleated around the waistline. It is entirely lined with brown glazed cotton. There is an in-seam pocket on the right side.
