DescriptionFormal studio portraits of the Bulkeley and Brainard families including portraits of Charles E. Bulkeley and Robert Bulkeley in their Civil War uniforms. Other surnames of sitters include Morgan, Taintor, Worthington, Hyde, Buffington, Daniels, Waterman, and Hicks. Portraits also include infants and children of the Bulkeley and Brainard families. One portrait is a photograph of a daguerreotype of Sarah Taintor Waterman by Augustus Washington.
NotesSubject Notes: 1967.56.21.13 is a photograph of a daguerreotype by Augustus Washington of Sarah Taintor Waterman in the collections of the Connecticut Historical Society. Sarah Taintor Waterman was murdered by pirates along with her sea captain husband on their wedding voyage off the Asian Pacific Coast.

1967.56.21.28 is a photograph of Robert Bulkeley in his Civil War uniform. Robert Bulkeley enlisted in the United States Army on August 25, 1862. He was mustered into Company K, Twenty Fifth Regiment of the Connecticut Volunteers Infantry on November 11, 1862. On May 12, 1863, Robert Bulkeley was promoted to Sergeant and served at that rank until his death on May 27, 1863 at Port Hudson, Louisiana. 1967.56.21.32 is a photograph of Lieutenant Edward B. Daniels of Old Lyme, Connecticut. Daniels enlisted in the United States Army on November 18, 1861 and mustered into the 12th Regiment Connecticut Volunteers, Infantry on November 19, 1861. On January 1, 1864, Daniels re-enlisted under Veteran status and was transferred to Company D, 12th Battalion, Connecticut Volunteers on November 26, 1864. He mustered out on August 12, 1865. 1867.56.21.62 is a photograph of Lieutenant Charles E. Bulkeley and Captain Joseph Perkins. Perkins enlisted in the United States Army on April 18, 1861 and mustered into Rifle Company A, 15th Regiment, Connecticut Volunteers on April 22, 1861. On May 14, 1861 he was promoted to First Lieutenant of the 12th Regiment U. S. I. Daniels mustered into Company L, 1st Regiment, Connecticut Volunteers, Heavy Artillery with the rank of Captain on March 12, 1862, . He resigned on December 3, 1863.
