NotesSubject Notes: 1964.18.1.7 is a formal portrait of Charles E. Bulkeley in his Civil War uniform.

Charles E. Bulkeley enlisted in the United State States Army as a Private on April 4, 186i. He was mustered into Company A, First Regiment Connecticut Volunteers, Infantry on April 22, 1861. On July 31, 1861, Charles mustered out of Company A and was promoted to 1st Lieutenant of Company L, First Regiment Connecticut Volunteers Heavy Artillery. He was transferred to Company E, First Regiment Connecticut Volunteers Heavy Artillery on December 19, 1863 and promoted to Captain on January 26, 1864. Captain Bulkeley served in Company E until his death on February 13, 1864. (Service of Connecticut Men in the Army & Navy of the United States During the War of Rebellion.
