DescriptionBust-length portrait of a man wearing a coat with a fur collar fastened with metal clasps is surrounded by an oval frame. Four flags and dense clouds are behind and around the frame. One flag, apparently an American flag, has stars on it. A second flag has a bull on it. Four vignettes are visible through openings in the clouds: a log cabin; a battle scene, possibly from the Mexican War; a plow, a shovel, and a sheaf of grain; and a second battle scene with Native Americans and soldiers.
