DescriptionLinen banner bearing painted scene with frontal figure of kneeling African woman wearing white dress with red waist sash, amid a tropical scene. River at right, palm trees in right background larger trees at left. Arched legend above scene reads: LET THE OPPRESSED GO FREE!" and below "RIGHTEOUSNESS EXALTETH A NATION - / SLAVERY IS A REPROACH TO ANY PEOPLE." Motto on reverse reads: "ROUSE, ALL, FOR GOD AND TRUTH AND MAN, / REDEEM OUR COUNTRY FROM ITS SHAME, PERFORM THE LOFTY DEED OF RIGHT / AND GIVE US BACK AN HONORED NAME." The banner is attached, by iron tacks, to a green painted hardwood rod. A dark blue, two-inch, looped silk fringe is attached on side and bottom edges.
