DescriptionMilitary units, including the Connecticut State Police, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Band, the Connecticut Naval Militia, and Peruvian navy units are shown marching to the Connecticut State Capitol. Connecticut Governor Chester Bowles, Ambassador of Peru Don Fernando Berckemeyer, and others stand at attention, and review the Peruvian troops. A field artillery battalion fires a 19-gun salute. Governor Bowles delivers an address of welcome in the Connecticut State Capitol, observed by representatives of Connecticut radio stations. Other photographs show an informal luncheon at the Connecticut State Armory, a dinner at the Griswold Inn in Essex, and group portraits of Peruvian sailors with American dignitaries. One portrait includes a Coca Cola bottle.
NotesSubject Note: On 3 June 1950, the State of Connecticut was host to Fernando Berkemeyer, Peruvian Ambassador to the United States, and 144 officers and men of the Peruvian navy, the crews of four submarines that were being overhauled and reconditioned by Electric Boat in New London.
