DescriptionWoman's day dress made of red silk with a repeating striped square motif. The squares range in size from 1/2-inch to 1 1/8-inch; the red squares are created by long floats in the fabric weave and the white squares have been created by a printed resist. The straight sleeves are 22 inches long and have two tucks, 2 1/4 inches apart, at the top of each shoulder. These tucks are 1/2 inch deep. Two-inch slits at the sleeve cuffs are finished with 1/2-inch self-fabric covered buttons. The rounded neckline is six inches wide. The yoke at the back of the dress is 5 3/4 inches long. Fabric covering the back is gathered into this yoke and again at the waistline, creating a "bloused" effect. The waistline is accented with a 6 1/2-inch wide sash of self-fabric, sewn at the back waistline to the side seams. This sash is then tied at the front left of the dress, creating a dropped waist. The five-inch placket at the center back neckline is secured with a single 1/2-inch self-fabric covered button. Two synthetic shoulder pads are covered with self-fabric.
